Greetings new or perhaps “old” reader of my blog.

As you may of may not know my blog sadly went down some time back (come to think of it, almost a year ago already), mainly due to a freak update of WordPress which ended up wiping the entire website. But as a IT professional I of course took regular backup as I would recommend to everybody else, Right? Sadly no, naive as I was I though a system like WordPress wouldn’t mess up like that.

But back to business, I’m putting the blog back online because I’m itching for writing again, sharing experiences, thoughts and what not.

The exact topic that got me “over the edge” if you will, is a recent hack or modification I did on my SqueezeBox Server which I think others might would benefit from as well. Specifically I have hooked up BruteFIR to my server as a real-time filter applied at playback. BruteFIR is primarily a real-time Digital Room Correction (DRC) filter, but I’m using it for it’s EQ logic which gives me a full parametric 128 band equalizer. But more to come on the exact details of this setup and the reasons why I needed a EQ so bad that I wanted to spend so many hours tinkering.
